Want to experience the best Moose hunting Canada has to offer?

Visit Munroe Lake Lodge.

Our lodge, nestled in the secluded forests of Northern Manitoba, is home to some of the best Moose hunts in the world. The area around us is almost untouched by humans—pristine, rugged wilderness with plenty of large bulls for big-game hunters.

We limit our Moose hunts to six hunters per year to maintain our exclusive, wild location—join us this year.

Manitoba Moose Hunting

Manitoba is prime Moose hunting territory. Canada’s Moose population is the largest in the world, and Manitoba is home to a population of 20,000 - 30,000 Moose.

Our massive boreal forest, filled with lakes, rivers, and streams, makes the perfect habitat for Moose. There’s plenty of food and shelter—Moose feed on the shoots of willows, as well as aquatic plant life. The boreal forests of Northern Manitoba are a feast for Moose.

This makes our province the perfect place for Moose hunting. We can help you through the process of getting a Moose hunting licence—it’s not too complicated—then bring you to our incredible lodge to hunt for Canadian Moose.

These majestic creatures should be on any big game hunter’s list. The feeling of having a 454 kg (1,000 lbs) bull Moose answer your call is indescribable. From mid-September to mid-October, the bulls are in rut searching for females—this offers hunters an incredible chance to hunt for Canada Moose. Expect to see Moose with antlers 122 cm (48”) wide and much bigger—you’ll be in prime Moose hunting territory during prime Moose hunting season.

About the Area

We’re located at Munroe Lake in Northern Manitoba. Our site is perfect for Moose hunting; there’s an abundance of lakes, rivers, streams, and forests in the area. Few have ever walked these grounds in the farthest northern reaches of the province. Moose in the area aren’t overhunted, which means there are plenty of majestic bulls roaming around.

Your Moose hunt will take place in the true wilderness of Canada—untamed forests and rocky shores. The sights here are breathtaking; you’ll see plenty of wildlife. You’ll even get a chance to see one of nature’s most awe-inspiring displays: The Northern Lights.

Our facilities are warm, rustic, and refined. We offer everything you need—warm rooms, hot showers, Wi-Fi, beds, and TV. You won’t be spending most of your time in our lodge, but we ensure that the time you spend there is comfortable.

There are all kinds of hunting and fishing to do in the area—you can hunt for Ptarmigan or fish for Northern Pike in between sessions of Moose hunting.

What To Expect

Your Moose hunting journey starts with a trip from Thompson, Manitoba to our lodge by plane. The first day is spent flying you out to our lodge, getting you fed, then covering orientation. On rare occasions, we can begin Moose hunting on the first day, but our guests often prefer to spend the day fishing.

From there, each day of your 9-day Moose hunting experience will be spent doing just that—going on our legendary Canada Moose hunts. Our hunters spend weeks before the hunt scouting for Moose activity to help you find the biggest bulls.

The hunt itself is physically demanding, but rewarding. We’ll travel by foot, boat, or ATV in order to track down bull Moose. Using Moose calls combined with hunting techniques like spot and stalk, you’ll track and kill your quarry. Our expert guides will then process the Moose, tagging and separating it into meat, rack, and cape.

Once you’re done with your daily Moose hunt, you can start hunting for Ptarmigan, or fishing for Pike, Walleye, Trout and Arctic Grayling. You’ll eat lunch during the hunt; supper will be served once you get back to the lodge. We often include local treats like Moose meat in our suppers. From there, you’ll be able to relax with your favourite drink, then spend the rest of the night however you like. Be sure to go to bed early, though—we serve breakfast at 6 AM!

Why Choose Munroe Lake Lodge?

There are so many reasons to choose our lodge for your Canada Moose hunt. We’ve narrowed it down to three:

  • Location: We’re in prime Canada Moose hunting territory. Out here, in late September, you’re bound to find at least one or two bull Moose. The bulls in these parts are huge, with antlers that usually span 122 cm (48”) or and much wider—a prime trophy for any big game hunter. There are vast expanses of boreal forest, barren ground, lakes, rivers, and streams. We only bring four hunters a year up here for our Canada Moose hunts—the surrounding land is virtually untouched by humans.

  • Experience: Our guides spend weeks preparing for our annual Moose hunting trips. You’ll benefit from their years of experience and the time they’ve spent tracking bull Moose for you to hunt. Using a variety of vehicles and hunting styles, you’re sure to have an incredible experience.

  • Facilities: The Munroe Lake Lodge is simple luxury—warm beds, hot showers, hearty meals, and Wi-Fi. We’ve got vehicles to traverse the rugged territory that surrounds us and a plane to fly you in and out of Thompson. Everything you need to experience a life-changing Moose hunt is right here.

Travelling to the Lodge

Our lodge is located in the remote wilderness of Northern Manitoba—it’s only accessible by plane. We’ll fly you from Thompson, Manitoba to our lodge. We strive to make travel to our lodge as simple as possible.

To get to the Lodge, you need to make your way to Thompson, Manitoba. International travellers entering Manitoba by plane will land in James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG), in the capital city of Winnipeg.

Travelling to Thompson is possible by car or plane. Calm Air, an airline in Manitoba, offers flights to Thompson, but it’s often more economical to drive. The trip takes about eight hours by vehicle.

Once you’ve arrived in Thompson, our plane will pick you up at 6 AM to fly you to our lodge!

Safety While Moose Hunting

We do everything we can to ensure every hunter’s safety during our Moose hunts. Hunting is a dangerous sport; here are a few things you can do to ensure your safety:

  • Dress in layers: On average, the temperature in our area peaks at about 10°C (50°F), and it can get much colder from there. Dressing in layers, with a jacket, sweater, and a t-shirt is best. Bring mitts or gloves to keep your hands warm. And don’t forget your high-visibility orange vest and cap!

  • Bring the right gear: We’ve created a list of all the hunting gear we recommend you bring. Read up on it—it will be helpful for planning your trip.

  • Listen to your guide: There are predators, natural hazards, and other dangers lurking in this untamed wilderness. Follow your guide’s instructions.

  • Learn first aid: You never know when a situation could go south. Learning first aid could save a life.

  • Respect the wildlife: Take clean, humane shots. Don’t attract unwanted attention; follow your guide’s instructions, and don’t bother animals unnecessarily.

  • Know your limits: Don’t push yourself too hard. Let your guide know if you’re feeling tired and need a break.
